about

'Mariana's Trenchcoat' - a beat I once made, turned into a song with Flite. I recorded all the instruments in my room and mixed it, added lots of little bits and lots of synths... Made some pads using the Strymon BigSky infinite function and sidechained compressed the pad using the FMR Audio RNC, reversed some drums, tried to illustrate jumping off a cliff over the sea with sound (you'll hear it, after the second chorus) and battled through frequency hungry synth layers armed with EQ and compression and panning etc... A journey it was. I hope you like it! I had drums set up and mic'd in my room for two weeks. Rick said he was sorry. I said I liked it. It had the air of 'something happening' whilst everything was set up. Rick was a great help during the mix process. Getting through all those little edits by myself would've been much less fun! -Ed

lyrics

Lyrics:

A different shade
a different colour
a step closer
to less
grey
one by one
piece by piece
I place each memory
out of reach

It's on it's way
I'm on my way
they're on their way back home
I'll dream of sleep
my ode to loss
I'll watch my own

To my own beat
it's my own fight
it's on me now
it's on me

The mornings are the worst
that sinking feeling
into the abyss
into the trench
yet we still will trudge
into the vastness
and just wish and hope
we don't lose closeness
